The world significantly moved towards individualism in 20th century and so did psychology research and development. However, as Tudor (2003) mentioned, Berne’s early works indicate TA was based on some level of collectivism as he applied and developed it in groups, rather than with individuals. As TA developed in North America and then in Europe it seems to have lost its sense of collectivism in the midst of global trends.
However, the taste of a TA identity of collectivism -“We psychology “(Tudor, 2016) – might be alive in our practice.
This workshop intends to introduce the concept of Contemplative TA, which is created by the marriage of individualism and collectivism in a legitimate way for our development as practitioners in all fields in the 21st century.
This workshop offers the Japanese collective perspective based on Shugendo and Sodo-Zen as a detonator for our exploration.
Since Contemplative TA also includes both a systemic and spiritual perspective (which is SBNR Spiritual But Not Religious: [Sven, 2000]), it enhances our perspective not only towards collectiveness but also the system of nature in the way that might be slightly different from that suggested by Eco-TA (Barrow & Marshall, 2020).
In this workshop, we apply the Contemplative TA concept through some activities and dialogues to taste it by both our soma and mind. It can contribute to the development of practitioners of all fields of TA.
