Often, during psychotherapy, it is challenging, both for therapist and the client, to come in contact with clients’ deepest emotions, needs and processes. We somehow need to enter the world of the preverbal child and move beyond the words and stories. Projective materials, such as an associative cards, toys, different creative techniques and also clients’ dreams, are helpful in this.

With many of my clients, dreamwork is present in every session. It gives us opportunity to connect, to get more understanding of client’s experience and the possibility to explore the options client has. They are illustration of the clients Child ego state with surprisingly intensive emotions that we cannot fully understand without such powerful images as dreams offer us. Often we find symbols that shows us different ego states of the clients, roles from drama triangle or dramatically illustrated payoffs. Through working with their dreams, clients are becoming more aware of who they are and get better sense of their identity.

In this workshop I will present different approaches for working with dreams in psychotherapy. Participants will have opportunity through exercise in pairs to discover how to work with dreams.
