The number one presenting problem in Couples Therapy is “We can’t communicate.”
I think there are several reasons why this is so:
- We have different personality adaptations,
- We don’t live in the same world,
- We think that there is only one reality, and
- We often hear our partner’s requests as a criticism of ourselves.
This workshop will demonstrate how the information on personality adaptations can help couples appreciate their differences, discover what it is like to live in their partner’s world and hear their partner’s requests coming from a vulnerable rather than a critical place. When this happens, partners can quickly move from conflict to intimacy in their relationship. Much of the content of this workshop is from my recent book
A process will be demonstrated to provide safety for both partners as they share vulnerable feelings with each other.
The format of the workshop will be both teaching using PowerPoint slides and a demonstration with a couple from the workshop. The workshop is intended primarily for Counselors and Psychotherapists to learn this approach.
