Artificial intelligence (AI) has become an integral part of our lives. AI applications are now ubiquitous in professional and private life, from finding the fastest route to recommending new songs to suit individual musical tastes to delegating routine tasks to digital helpers. AI algorithms are making our lives easier in many respects.

At the same time, companies are becoming increasingly aware that AI use can also involve risks. The European Parliament’s adoption of the world’s first AI law in mid-March 2024, therefore, marks a milestone in AI governance and legitimacy.

Current research on AI has so far only examined the effects of AI use from a sociological, economic, or psychological perspective. In contrast, the impact of these new factors on structures and dynamics in organisations is rarely considered.

The current development presents a unique and exciting opportunity for transactional analysis in the O-field. Similar to a field study, we as TA-O can now observe and analyse how organisations deal with AI applications, potentially uncovering valuable insights.

Initially, this exploration may raise more questions than answers. However, these questions can be highly productive, leading us to identify key interfaces between AI and organisations, understand how communication is changing, and anticipate emerging team dynamics. By applying various concepts of the TA-O legacy, we can analyse and potentially mitigate the effects of AI on organisations.

In the workshop, I will engage my colleagues in a dynamic discussion, using examples from my work to present various hypotheses on the effects of AI in organisations. This interactive approach will allow us to collectively explore and understand these effects.
