When we no longer identify with our Scripts the question arises: ‘Who or what are we?’
Both individuals and organisations have scripts and can enact them unconsciously. As Eric Berne described these personal narratives come to form identities that will usually be limiting and prescriptive.
TA theory provides us with an excellent tool for self enquiry. We can closely observe in ourselves how our transactions, rackets and games can support the life script. We can notice how our archaic patterns of thought, feeling and behaviour play out in our day to day lives. We can become familiar with our ongoing attempts to counter our scripts.
This mindful awareness sheds light on the extent to which our life scripts interrupt our capacity to be fully present and filters our view of ourselves and others. Awareness of these patterns automatically brings a freedom and allows for greater spontaneity and creativity.
However going beyond the script is a step into the unknown and brings the challenge of a loss of structure and a movement away from the familiar. At the same time stepping into the unknown brings potential liberation and raises the deeper question: If we are not our scripts who or what are we?
The workshop will take the form of a contemplative talk with plenty of time for sharing and discussion. The participants opportunity to explore this perspective in terms of understanding and practice and in relation to the individual and organisations.
