TA and tarot have a lot in common. They share the humanistic approach, the okayness, the emphasis on human relations and the striving for autonomy. My tarot decks have been with me for 20 years now. In the meantime, the cards have merged with the concepts of transactional analysis – quite a useful combination!

Tarot is a deck of 78 cards that over the centuries has absorbed the wisdom of many cultures, their fairy tales, philosophies, stories, morals and life experiences. We can use this ancient legacy to gain deep insights into ourselves, to sharpen our identity and to form ideas of our own legacy.

By the way: I don’t believe in fortune-telling; rather, I believe that the answers to our questions are often hidden in our subconscious. We can use the tarot to tap into this subconscious realm.

In this workshop I will talk about how I use the cards in my Counselling Practise. I will tell the story of the Hero’s or the Fool’s Journey (in TA maybe the Marsian Story?). This Journey as laid out in the Major Arcana can be a different approach to explore the Clients’ Script and the resources that lie within it.

Through the drawing of the tarot cards and our co-creative exploration of the card meanings, an exciting process begins. Instead of ruminating on issues, our values, behaviours, feelings and narratives take shape in an emotional way …

I work with the classic “Rider-Waite-Smith” deck and will bring a few decks for the participants to experience.
