The workshop intends to share with the participants some ways of using the Genogram with adolescents, in the process of becoming protagonists of their own life story, keeping with them the legacy received from generations.
The “beacon” that guides the intervention, which the presenters have been carrying out with the teenagers for years, is:
- feed and nourish their “physis”;
- accompany them in a process of developing their own subjectivity;
- help them recognize the “horrible devouring monsters, pitfalls, dangers”, of their script, across generations, as well as the “fairy tale elements of excitement, adventure, love, beautiful fantasy” to circumvent calamities and turn misfortune into good fortune (English, 1977).
The workshop presents the use of the Genogram as a useful tool for identifying script elements with adolescents, making transgenerational “bequests” explicit as limiting aspects of the script and as opportunities and resources.
The co-construction of the Genogram, as a graphic tool that connects the individual and generations, can encourage adolescents to make some intentional choices regarding their life project, integrating legacies with aspirations, for the construction of the foundations of autonomy and authentic identity.
Participants, through proposed clinical cases, will have the opportunity to discuss and experiment in small groups with the use of the Genogram in connection with the script, as a tool that facilitates the clarification and the increase in awareness of legacy of values, behavioural and emotional received from previous generations.
